The Dundee Fallout
What is it?
This is an event run by DUSC which will give you the chance to jump for free, while raising money for a charity. This event is run in conjunction with the charity DARE. However, you may pick any charity of your choice to donate your money to!
Our first one was done in June this year, with 9 people successfully completing the course.

Please keep a lookout for more information about the 2010 one!
Sponsorship Money
Assuming you meet the minimum targets, you will get to jump for free. A table below shows the costs involved

| RAPS (recomended) | £300 |
| Tandem | £450 |
RAPS or Tandem?
RAPS
A RAPS jump, otherwise known as a static line jump, requires the student to undergo a full days ground school and written examination, before being flown to 3,500 feet and exiting the plane themselves. The parachute opens automatically after approx. 5 seconds, allowing the student to fly the canopy back to the ground (following instructions given over the radio by a qualified personel on the ground). This jump is actually much cheaper than a tandem which allows a greater proportion of your sponsorship to go towards the charity of your choosing. In total the student would be required to raise a total of £300 to take part in a RAPS skydive.
Tandem
Tandem skydiving involves being strapped to an instructor (with over 1000 jumps) who will exit the plane at 10,000 feet and free-fall for approximately 40 seconds before deploying the canopy and flying the student to the ground. This method of skydiving requires very little training or input on the part of the student but it is an expensive option due to the instructor intensive experience. In total the student would be required to raise a total of £450 to take part in a tandem skydive.
Please note we HIGHLY recomend the RAPS jump for a variety of reasons:
1. More money goes to charity.
2. If you wish to continue skydiving, this is the right choice for you.
3. Jumps only cost from £28 each after it until you qualify (then they cost from £13) each.
4. Its more fun than a tandem as you are in control!
Frequently Asked Questions
What is freefall like?
It is hard to explain, but if you imagine facing into a very strong wind and getting blown back, its very similar to that, but the wind is much stronger! You don't get that"falling sensation" as such!
How dangerous is skydiving?
Believe it or not, its actually a lot safer than most sports! It is very rare that people die skydiving, and the media and YouTube blow the whole thing out of proportion drastically. You are more likely to die driving a car than you are skydiving. In the VERY VERY unlikley event that your parachute fails, you still have a backup one.. If you are doing a RAPS jump, all the safety issues will be drilled into you and practiced till you can do them in your sleep before they let you jump!
Comparison with Skiing (Taken from the BCPA's Safety Document)
Using the statistics available from http://www.ski-injury.com in order to compare against skiing/snowboarding and using an equivalent scale of injuries/fatalities it is possible to show that injuries requiring medical attention are approximately 4 per thousand skier days (compared to 0.4 per 1000 jumps for experienced skydivers). Given this information it could be reliably argued that if you accept the risk of going skiing the risk of skydiving are also within your threshold.
What if I'm scared of heights?
A lot of people who do skydiving are actually terrified of heights. It is not natural for you to throw yourself out of a plane, but with a bit of mental dicipline, you can do it. The rush of adrenaline that you will get from this experience will be like nothing you have ever experienced! Guaranteed! I (Aaron) am personally terrified of heights, yet I have done 40 jumps, all solo!
If I change my mind, can someone push me?
No. We are not allowed to push you out the plane, even if you request it as it is ILLEGAL. If you don't wish to jump when your in the plane, nobody will force you to. If this is the case, the plane will take you safely back onto the ground. You will not be able to reclaim any of your course fee if this happens. The club may let you have a second chance at the jump without billing you, but we cannot guarantee it.
